This CD is related to a research project called "Research through interpretation". The consists of five parts: one preparatory study, three case studies and one concluding reflection dealing with issues related to "interpretive research" as well as "artistic research". The case study which is related to this CD is entirely focused on music by Duke Ellington and biographical material dealing with the musicians of Duke Ellington. The study is conducted at the School of Music and Drama at the Faculty of Fine, Applied and Performing Arts Göteborg University Sweden. The funding for this study is provided by the Swedish Research Council. The association Music Against Violence was established on the United Nations Day, 24 October 2005, when a number of musicians and music lovers gathered in Gothenburg to initiate a network against violence. What brings the members of Music Against Violence together is the interest in music and the aspiration towards a more peaceful society. The association is politically and religiously neutral. "For a better community with music as the driving force" We believe that it’s important for individuals to have the chance to intermingle; young and old, rich and poor, left and right, musicians and audience. The opportunity exists in these meetings. Violence has many different faces, and the work begins inside of us. Music Against Violence encourages everyone to take a stand against violence. The opposite isn’t to take a stand for violence, but instead, to not take a stand at all. We communicate and work through music. Through music we want to inspire and arouse the creative, constructive and good forces that exist in every human being. Music Against Violence network both on the national and international level.
